FAQ

Who can submit ideas?

Anyone with an idea; however, we prefer to partner with dental professionals: dentists, hygienists, and assistants.

Will I get paid for my idea?

There are multiple stages to the innovation process.

  1. Contact Request - No confidential information is exchanged; therefore, no payments will be made. We use this step as a filtering process. We have a long list of projects we are working on... maybe even the idea you have. We're looking for unique, innovative problems nobody else is addressing.
  2. Non-Disclosure Agreement Signed

  3. Invention Form - Finally, confidential information can be exchanged. The idea must be patentable or novel, unique, non-obvious and add to products already available. If it is patentable then depending on the development status, royalties, license agreements, or lump sums are negotiated. If the idea is not patentable, then on a case-by-case basis royalties may be provided.

Do I need a patent before I submit my idea?

No. We have a team of highly experienced patent lawyers. We will take care of the Intellectual Property process and costs associated to ensure the patent is strong and going to cover your ideas completely. That being said, if you have already applied for a patent, do not let that deter you from submitting a contact request.

What does safe, simple, sample-able, and single-patient-use mean?

Safe: Many of our products concentrate on making dentistry safer. We sterilized burs because it decreases risk for infection. We made our NeoBurrs the strongest on the market because it results in less breakage. We want to reduce the risk to the patient.

Simple: We're not a high-tech company. You won't see Microcopy launching the next cone beam or CAD/CAM. Our products are low tech and easy to operate. We want them to make dentistry simpler too. Any product that helps solve a problem in a simple, easy way is what we seek to invent.

Sample-able: We don't have a sales force. People are usually shocked to hear that, but we rely on our sampling program to get the word out there into the dental professional's hand. To make a product sample-able it has got to be low cost to produce and small enough to fit through the mail.

Single-Patient-Use (SPU): Microcopy is the leader in SPU. Starting with NeoDiamonds and expanding to NeoBurrs, we pioneered the entire field of SPU dental burs. All of our products are recommended for one time use and many come pre-sterilized.

Does my idea have to fit into all 4 S's?

No. However, priority will be given to projects that fit into all 4 S's. So when you're inventing a product and it fits into 3/4 of the 4 S's ask yourself if any changes can be made to the prototype to accomplish that 4th S without sacrificing the product's function and quality.
